Eight Cylinders

After weakening the mixture to nothing to get it to pass, Phil "tuned it by ear", the old fashioned way. I can now drive without the choke; it sounds like it has eight cylinders; (ignore the fan belt), here it is:

The "New" Wheels

Look much better don't they?

MOT 2013

Not a good start to the day as it broke down on the way! £20 worth of dodgy fuel from dodgy Datty and the chuffing thing wouldn't start. Thankfully, (Simon and) I rolled it down the little hill just outside the little garage (where the motor home place was) . The bloke turned up for work at about 08:15 and couldn't help but get his hands under the bonnet! Lots of revs and can of "start-ya-bastard" got it going.

The MOT then. Unbelievable! The rusty sills didn't appear to be an issue. It failed on 4x tyres, which I knew about, and the emissions, which I presumed. Excellent!

Lipstick on a Pig ii

This winter's main job is to sort out the sill rust. The bottom of the car, sill, wings etc, should be black rather than green. I prefer the green but will never be able to match the original colour, so black it will be. I am sure that the original factory colour was black, rather like this ...

Pershore Plum Festival 2013

A fantastic show, (fairly) well organised, hundreds of cars and thousands of people, sunny weather; excellent!

Wyre Forest District Council, take note. Pershore's traders must have made a fortune today.

Lipstick on a pig?

Anybody out there know anything about rust? Or welding? Or respraying?
A very rusty sill. Am I spending lots of money for nothing?

Temperature Gauge

Not the best pictures but it was dark! Two pictures, one with just the engine running and one with the engine running, lights on and fan on. One says just over half way and one says its about to blow up. How's that then?!

It's going to explode!

No it's not!

Reverse Lights & Speedo Cable ii

Got a new speedo cable and a new reverse switch and a pair of ridiculously tall but very useful blokes and made a start. No way would my stomach have fit under that car!

Crappy old speedo cable

(Watching Simon) fit the new cable!

Lionel got on with the switch using the new electrics from a few weeks ago.

Job done: working speedo and working reverse lights. Thanks chaps!

Pretty silver wheels fitted!

The wheels for with Guy's SD1 nuts. The tyres are much much thinner than the old dodgy one that are on aft moment. Now to see how much Guy wants for the nuts!

Reverse Lights & Speedo Cable i

On 20th July, the Tamed Electrician and I had a go at fixing the reversing lights and the shafted speedo. The speedo hasn't worked properly since April when it was taxed. It was found that the cable had buggered. At one end is a lump of metal that fits into the gearbox. It was still in the gearbox but it couldn't be guaranteed that the cable was pushed in properly. The problem was the plastic plug that fits into the speedo housing, This was cracked and taped up badly. New cable required.

The reverse lights used to flick on and off between first and second gear. They eventually stayed on at ll times. I temporarily fixed it by unplugging the bulbs at the back! It was a the reverse switch. It would appear that I tightened it too tightly all those months ago. The 12 volts to the switch had also disappeared for some reason  so Lionel found some more electric in another wire. Another switch required.

Bugger

A bloody tear! And some of the hood studs have fallen off again!

How do I fix this then? Black tape? Sewing kit?

Misfiring

It is. Again. I haven't done anything to it. Will this car ever work properly?

Roof Down in -3

That was cold! Villa hat on and gloves on. I looked like a bellend, but a nice crisp drive to work.
Usual problem of the temp gauge suggesting the engine was about to blow up. I'll have to get another sender and thermostat, failing that, another gauge.

Oh and the speedo has decided to stop working. It must have been knocked when we were trying to fix the taco over the winter. That doesn't work either!

More Carb Action iii & Tachometer

So I left this particular saga with a very badly running engine. This time, the old team was back together, that is, the mechanic, the tamed electrician and the tea boy. Here they are.

One looks like he is as high as a kite and the other is having an Ascent of Man moment in the cab with something red and shiny.

However, without them I am lost and thank you for their help and ridicule over the last four, mainly fruitless years
